Thousand Cuts

The method — every build, no exceptions

Boring on purpose.

No manifesto. Just the rules every Thousand Cuts build follows, who does the work, and the stack it runs on.

Re: the four rules

Every build. No exceptions.

Human-in-the-loop

Approvals stay with people. Automation does the paperwork around the decision — never the decision. Your brand never ships unreviewed.

Full logging

Every run leaves a timestamped trail. If an asset moved or a status changed, it's on the record — exportable, auditable, dull.

Data boundaries

Your briefs, assets, and customer data stay in your systems. We connect them — we don't collect them.

Kill switch

Every automation pauses with one click. No mystery boxes running your pipeline.

Responsible operator

Every teardown and every build is led by the senior automation consultant who does the work. No SDR handoff, no junior delivery team, no outsourced build. The person on the teardown call is the person your system will have been built by.

When it ends

Cancel the retainer and the automations keep running — they're yours, documented, in your accounts. You get the runbook, the credentials model, and the kill switch. Nothing is held hostage.

Re: severity

Cuts. Gashes. Severances.

Lost time comes in three sizes. Learn to tell them apart. The treatment is different.

Cuts

Minor · seconds, constantly

  • Highlighting text, right-clicking, selecting "copy"
  • Renaming files one at a time (final_v2_FINAL)
  • Re-typing the project name into a third tool
  • Hunting the latest version through email

Individually invisible. Collectively: the biggest line item nobody approves.

Gashes

Medium · minutes to hours, weekly

  • Re-keying intake forms into the PM tool
  • Chasing proof approvals, round after round
  • Rebuilding the status deck every Monday
  • Resizing one asset for nine placements by hand

Big enough to schedule around. Nobody does.

Severances

Major · a salary's worth, structural

  • A coordinator role that is 80% moving data between systems
  • An inbox-as-intake-system with a full-time human router
  • Proof cycles so slow that rush fees are a line item
  • Reporting nobody owns, so everyone does it badly

So big it has a job title.

Re: how a build goes

Three steps. One of them never ends.

Wk 0

The teardown

Pick one workflow. We map it live, price the waste, and show exactly what an automation would do. Free, 30 minutes, no deck.

Wk 1–2

The build

A working automation with human checkpoints where they matter — tested against your real briefs and proofs, not demo data.

Wk 3 → ∞

It runs

Executes at 2 AM without complaint. We monitor, patch, and keep improving it on retainer.

Re: the stack

Built where your work already lives.

No rip-and-replace, no vendor pitch. AI where it earns its keep, plain automation where it doesn't.
